2017 MONTGOMERY COUNTY FARM BUREAU SCHOLARSHIP 

The Montgomery County Farm Bureau, Inc. realizes the importance of supporting the next generation in order to keep agriculture viable and to keep family farms and agriculture related businesses in the state of Maryland. To this purpose, the Montgomery County Farm Bureau is pleased to offer $15,000 in scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year. These scholarships are designed to assist students who have demonstrated character, scholarship, and talent and who are interested in pursuing an education and eventual career in the Maryland agricultural, plant related industries, and/or Maryland education. Montgomery County Farm Bureau Member families are also eligible for these scholarships in any field of study.

2017 Robert & Shirley Mangum Memorial Scholarship

$2000 Scholarship, Ornamental Horticulture & Related fields

Available to Student pursuing studies in Ornamental Horticulture, Floriculture, Greenhouse Growing, etc.

May 2, 2017 at 5pm is the deadline to apply for the $2000 annual Robert & Shirley Mangum Memorial Scholarship for students pursuing collegiate studies and a career in horticulture and related fields.  Administered since 2004 by the Montgomery County Farm Bureau, the scholarship honors the contributions of lifelong Montgomery County residents, Robert & Shirley Mangum, who were pioneers in the local ornamental horticulture and interior landscape contracting industry.  For further information, the website robertmangumscholarship.com  has been created containing information about eligibility, application, deadlines and contact information.  Information must be submitted prior to deadline  for consideration.

 

Who Will Be the Next Miss Montgomery County Farm Bureau?

Would you like to serve as an agricultural ambassador to represent Montgomery County Agriculture?  Why not apply for the 2017 Miss Montgomery County Farm Bureau contest.  Montgomery County Farm Bureau (MCFB) is seeking applicants for the 2017 Miss MCFB Contest to be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Annual Picnic.  One Miss MCFB and 2 Runner-Ups will be selected to promote agriculture in Montgomery County during the 2017-2017 year.  Miss MCFB will represent Montgomery County at the Miss Maryland Agriculture contest at the 2017 Maryland State Fair.  Educational scholarships will be awarded to the contest winner, first and second runner-ups.  The contest is open to all single girls age 16-19 that are part of a family farming operation and/or have a 4-H/FFA agricultural project.  The applicant’s parents must be members in good standing of Montgomery County Farm Bureau prior to the contest date.  For questions, contact Contest Coordinator Paula Linthicum at senecaayrfarms@aol.com or 240-398-0121.  The application deadline is May 26, 2017.   Click here to apply!

 

 

2017 Farm to Table Experience

Why not come to Montgomery County Farm Bureau’s Farm to Table Experience at Laytonsville Turf Farm located just outside Laytonsville, MD.  Spend a delightful evening on the farm enjoying a delicious meal prepared by Doug Kellner, Executive Chef for GrillMarx Steakhouse & Raw Bar.  Chef Kellner will showcase meats and produce from local farmers.  Embrace local agriculture on a farm tour, taste local wine and beer, and chat with your farmers.  Learn more about local food sources and how your food is produced.
